Union Saint-Gilloise vs Roma Preview

Union Saint-Gilloise have enjoyed an incredibly consistent run over the past few seasons. They qualified for the Championship Round of the Pro League in each of the past three years, but the start to the 2025 season has been a disappointing one.

They currently sit 10th in the Pro League, mustering just three wins from 16 matches played, with seven draws causing frustration among the fan base. In last month’s six fixtures, they only managed a solitary win against lowly KAS Eupen in the Belgian Cup, so it is fair to say confidence is likely to be lacking for the hosts.

Entering Europa League Matchday 4, they are still without a win in the competition, with their single point leaving them languishing in 29th spot. As is to be expected at a club the size of Union SG, they lost another influential player in the summer, with Cameron Puertas – contributor of 14 goals and 21 assists in his last full season – being lured to the Saudi Pro League.

Their opponents Roma have had similar, if not worse struggles this term, considering the club’s reputation. The Giallorossi are 11th in Serie A with just 13 points after 11 matches played. And manager Ivan Juric is under immense pressure already, especially considering the recent unpopular decision to sack club icon Daniele De Rossi.

In the league, Roma only have one win to show for October fixtures. This month has started similarly, with a 3-2 defeat away to Hellas Verona this past weekend. And things have not been much better in Europe, despite a respectable 1-1 draw with Athletic Club on Matchday 1, they lost out 1-0 to IF Elfsborg on Matchday 2, before recovering slightly with a 1-0 home win over Dynamo Kyiv.

It is difficult to say how long the Roma board, or perhaps more importantly, the Roma fans will allow this run to continue without demanding change from the hierarchy. But by securing progress in the Europa League, Juric could retain his job – at least until the new year.

With both teams struggling for form, either side could use a win to kick-start their campaign before it truly descends into one to forget.

Union Saint-Gilloise vs Roma Betting Tips

Both Teams To Score – Yes @ 1.76

With both teams potentially low on confidence, there is an opportunity for goals at either end. So we think both teams to score could be a good shout.

Half Time / Full Time – Tie / Union Saint Gilloise @ 6.50

A tight game could see the teams go into half time all-square, before USG take advantage of the fact Roma have not won any of their last eight away games.

Team To Score 2nd Half – Union Saint Gilloise, Yes @ 1.83

We have got a sneaky hunch that USG will save their best for the second half, just do not ask us why!
