The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the famous African football tournament, is about to kick off.
Scheduled to take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, the competition will be held in Morocco and will bring together 24 teams across nine stadiums in six cities: Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakesh, Agadir and Fez.

AFCON 2025: Competition Overview
Who will succeed Côte d’Ivoire, who won the title backin February 2024?
Morocco is set to host AFCON for the second time in its history, after 1988.
The Atlas Lions, favourites for the competition, will play the opening match against Comoros in Rabat.
And the formidable team led by Walid Regragui could count on the return from injury of the indispensable Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain.
The biggest clash of the first round will see two other favourites for the title face off: Côte d’Ivoire, the current title holders, and Cameroon, five-time African champions.
Senegal, winners of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, have impressed this year under Pape Thiaw. Although the Lions of Teranga lost to Brazil last month, they bounced back immediately with an 8-0 win over Kenya – and can count on the in-form Iliman Ndiaye of Everton.
Algeria and Egypt, unbeaten in World Cup qualifying, are also among the favourites for this new edition of AFCON.

Historic semi-finalists at the 2022 World Cup, the Atlas Lions have since confirmed their status among the best African teams. Under the leadership of Walid Regragui, Morocco relies on a solid defensive organisation, proven tactical mastery and individuals capable of making a difference at any moment. Carried by their fans and accustomed to big games, the Moroccans seem to have everything it takes to win a second continental title, 49 years after their only title in 1976.

Victor Osimhen appears to be one of the most credible candidates for the title of top scorer of this 2025 AFCON. Since the start of the season, the Nigerian striker has scored six goals for Galatasaray. A true offensive leader for the Super Eagles, Osimhen is at the heart of Nigeria’s project and benefits from a team tailored to play forward. In a Nigerian squad that is clearly aiming for the title and should go far in the competition, Osimhen will have plenty of opportunities to find the back of the net.
