The Europa League is back for Matchday 5. The League Phase standings are slowly taking shape with some teams already in a strong position, while others are still lurking in the shadows, ready to spring a surprise in the final gameweeks.
This fifth matchday should give us even more clues about the European future of several teams. Notably, Racing Genk host FC Basel, who are going through a difficult period — so it’s a golden opportunity for the Belgian side to climb the table with a crucial win.

Europa League 2025/26: Our Predictions for Matchday 5
*All odds are subject to change
AS Roma to beat FC Midtjylland @ 1.45
AS Roma enter this match needing points. The Giallorossi currently sit 18th in the table with only 6 points on the board. Midtjylland, meanwhile, are the surprise leaders of the 2025/26 Europa League, having enjoyed a very strong campaign thus far. Roma will need to rely on home advantage and their European experience to secure three crucial points and reassert their status as one of the tournament favourites.
Draw between Viktoria Plzen and Freiburg @ 3.50
Only two points separate Plzen, 8th, and Freiburg, 2nd, in the standings. The German side are coming off an impressive 3–1 win over Nice and may be satisfied with a draw away from home against a pretty strong opponent, who remain unbeaten since the start of the competition. The Czech team also held a high-quality Fenerbahçe side to a 0–0 draw in the previous matchday, and would likely consider another stalemate as a positive result.
Racing Genk to beat FC Basel @ 1.98
Heading into this new round of the Europa League’s opening phase, Genk, 13th, should now be full of confidence after their strong performance last time out. The Belgian side claimed a 4–3 away victory over Braga, a club well accustomed to European competitions. Genk should be able to build on this momentum to defeat FC Basel, 17th with 6 points, who have struggled repeatedly in 2025-26. Basel have won just one of their last six away matches this season, a pretty woeful record!
Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Lyon: Martin Satriano to score anytime @ 2.80
Martin Satriano, Lyon’s Uruguayan forward, has struggled to fully express his offensive potential this season. With only one Europa League goal to his name, and still scoreless in the league, the Lens loanee should look to take advantage of this match against a theoretically weaker opponent to find the back of the net again.
