Manchester United to beat Real Sociedad @ 1.83
While this season has been a continuous struggle for United, we expect them to beat a Real Sociedad side who just cannot seem to find the scoring touch. The La Liga outfit have lost three of the last four across all competitions, including last Sunday’s shock 1-0 home defeat to Sevilla. Netting just once in that quartet of matches, Real Sociedad’s season is in danger of ending with a whimper. United can take some confidence from their 1-1 draw with Arsenal and give the Old Trafford crowd a night to remember after the 1-1 in the first leg of this tie.
Lazio to beat Viktoria Plzen @ 1.36
So far, Lazio have arguably been the team to beat in the Europa League. The Serie A side finished top of the League Phase and claimed a 2-1 victory in Plzen last weekend. As such, they should cruise into the quarter-finals with another comfortable win at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday. A 1-1 draw with Udinese last weekend was perhaps not ideal preparation for the second leg, although Viktoria could only manage a 0-0 away at second-bottom FK Pardubice in their previous outing.
Roma to beat Athletic Bilbao @ 3.90
This was billed as the tie of the round before a ball was kicked and it is still firmly in the balance following Roma’s 2-1 first-leg triumph. Athletic Bilbao are capable of blowing teams away on their own patch, evidenced by a 7-1 thrashing of Real Valladolid at the end of February. But Roma really have rediscovered the Midas touch under the guidance of veteran manager Claudio Ranieri, the Giallorossi winning each of the last six across all competitions. Can they make it seven on the bounce? We are tipping them to do so and silence the cauldron that is the San Mames in the process!
Ajax to beat Eintracht Frankfurt @ 3.60
In the Eredivisie, Ajax have been virtually unstoppable of late. On a run of 10 consecutive wins, they sit eight points clear of second-placed PSV Eindhoven. But the Amsterdam outfit could not mirror that form in the first leg against Eintracht, losing 2-1 at home after taking the lead in the 10th minute. So the pressure is on Ajax when they travel to Frankfurt and it should be a sensational match. The Dutch side get our vote, though, especially after Eintracht’s shock 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin on the weekend – their second consecutive home loss in the Bundesliga.
