Aston Villa vs Club Brugge: Champions League Preview

Can Club Brugge complete a comeback against Aston Villa?

It would be one of the shocks of the season so far, but stranger things have happened in the Champions League!

The Belgian side trail 3-1 after the first leg following two late goals and claiming victory at Villa Park is a tall order even for Europe’s biggest sides.

Aston Villa vs Club Brugge Preview

Club Brugge need something close to a miracle to claw themselves back into this tie, though they may take solace from their previous away display in Europe.

The reigning Jupiler Pro League champions famously beat Atalanta 3-1 in the second leg of their play-off tie to secure passage to this round.

Club Brugge even took a 3-0 first-half lead in that match and Villa should be wary of the attacking threat posed by Nicky Hayen’s side, namely Ferran Jutgla, Hans Vanaken and Christos Tzolis.

Jutgla and Vanaken were both on the scoresheet in the 3-1 derby win over Cercle Brugge on the weekend.

But Villa are on a very promising run of form, winning the last three matches in all competitions.

Last Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Brentford was a dogged away performance, with Ollie Watkins netting the only goal of the game.

Confidence levels will be running high in Unai Emery’s squad and if Villa get an early goal on Wednesday evening, it could be a long, long night for Club Brugge.

The Belgian outfit’s last visit to England saw them lose 3-1 to Manchester City on Matchday 8 of the new-look League Phase.

Furthermore, Villa have not lost at home since October.

Aston Villa vs Club Brugge Betting Tips

Youri Tielemans to score anytime @ 7.00

A very, very bold shout, but given Tielemans’ affiliation with Club Brugge’s fierce rivals Anderlecht – of whom he is a youth product – it would be typical for him to score on Wednesday. Tielemans has already netted once in this season’s Champions League as well.

Hans Vanaken to score anytime @ 5.50

But we also fancy Club Brugge to strike, as Villa have not kept a clean sheet in the Champions League since Matchday 5. Vanaken is the club’s leading scorer in the Pro League with nine goals.

Over 3.5 goals in the match @ 2.55

Given the fact we are tipping two players to score, it feels only right to also support the market backing a high-scoring affair. Just look at how the first leg panned out!
