Wimbledon 2025: Tournament Preview

After the legendary five-hour-29-minute battle between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the Roland-Garros final, fans are expecting another round of top-level matches at this year’s British Grand Slam.

Alcaraz, fresh off a title win at the ATP Queen’s in London, has prepared well for the grass season. His main rival, Sinner, suffered an early exit in the second round of the ATP Halle tournament against Alexander Bublik, giving Alcaraz a strong opportunity to reclaim the world No. 1 ranking before the end of the year.

Novak Djokovic hinted at a possible retirement within the next 12 months following his semi-final loss to Sinner at Roland-Garros, which could make this his final appearance at the world’s oldest tennis tournament. The Serb has lost back-to-back Wimbledon finals (2023, 2024) to Alcaraz and seems slightly past his prime, but he still remains a serious contender for the title.

Other players such as Alexander Zverev and Jack Draper will also be closely watched.

On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka enters as one of the main favourites, alongside Elena Rybakina and Coco Gauff—although the American had a tough lead-up, exiting early in the WTA Berlin tournament.

French sensation Loïs Boisson, who made waves at the last Roland-Garros, was eliminated in the first round of qualifiers and will not be part of the main draw.

Wimbledon 2025 is also marked by several major withdrawals, including Casper Ruud, Arthur Fils, and Sebastian Korda. Nick Kyrgios, who has battled recurring injuries over the past two years, was set to make his comeback but was forced to pull out once again after a setback.

Also, a small revolution: for the first time in its history, Wimbledon 2025 will have no line judges. All courts will instead be equipped with electronic line-calling, already in use at tournaments like the US Open.

At just 22 years old, Alcaraz arrives at Wimbledon 2025 in top form after winning the ATP Queen’s in London. Men’s Winner – Jannik Sinner @ 2.48

World No. 1 heading into Wimbledon, Sinner is aiming to solidify his dominance with a first title on British grass. Strong and consistent all season, the Italian relies on his power and tactical maturity, making him one of the top favourites for this year’s title.

Sabalenka comes into Wimbledon 2025 aiming for her third Grand Slam title. A two-time semi-finalist in London, the Belarusian is hoping to finally make the breakthrough this year. Her power and baseline aggression are well-suited to the grass surface.
