The 2025 edition of the US Open is in full swing. The world’s best players now face the third round of this prestigious tennis competition, with a spot in the Round of 16 at stake.
The favourites are still on track. Carlos Alcaraz, still in contention for the world No. 1 spot, comfortably dispatched Mattia Bellucci in the second round and will face another Italian, Luciano Darderi, next.
Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, seems to have fully recovered from the virus that forced him to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters 1000 final. The Italian has been flawless so far and is aiming to lift the trophy for the second year in a row.
On his side, Novak Djokovic is struggling to rediscover both his top form and optimal fitness. The Serbian had to battle hard to overcome Zachary Svajda in four sets after a shaky start. In the third round, he’ll take on Britain’s Cameron Norrie, whom he has already defeated this year at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon.

Cameron Norrie to win at least one set against Novak Djokovic @ 2.14
Third time’s the charm? The 24-time Grand Slam champion faces Cameron Norrie for the third time this year, after victories at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The 30-year-old Brit, ranked 35th in the ATP, failed to take a set in their previous meetings, but things could be different in New York. With Djokovic’s form still uncertain, Norrie may well secure at least one set.
Jannik Sinner to beat Denis Shapovalov 3–0 @ 1.39
The world No. 1 needed only three sets to dispatch Alexei Popyrin. Next up is Canadian Denis Shapovalov. Sinner has been ruthless since the start of the tournament, with a strong first serve and impeccable court coverage. Shapovalov, on the other hand, has struggled to find consistency in recent months and continues to make too many unforced errors against opponents of this calibre. If Sinner maintains the same intensity as in his previous match, a straight-sets win looks the most likely outcome.
Under 3.5 sets between Luciano Darderi and Carlos Alcaraz @ 1.35
After a dominant 1h36 victory over Bellucci, Alcaraz now takes on another Italian, Darderi. For the world No. 34, this looks like a mission impossible against the tournament’s second outright favourite. Expect another straight-sets win for the 22-year-old Spaniard, who shouldn’t linger on court for long.
Benjamin Bonzi to beat Arthur Rinderknech @ 1.69
After his five-set victory over Daniil Medvedev, Benjamin Bonzi comes in as the favourite in this all-French clash. Arthur Rinderknech, currently ranked 82nd, impressed by knocking out the world No. 18 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the previous round. Both Frenchmen have endured long matches to reach this stage, so fatigue could play a role. However, Bonzi’s momentum and strong performance may give him the edge here.
