The 2025 ATP Toronto tournament continues, and this Tuesday the remaining eight players will battle it out for a place in the semi-finals.
Some exciting matchups are on the cards, including the headline clash between Zverev and Popyrin, as well as Rublev vs Fritz.
Defending champion Alexei Popyrin has booked his spot in the quarter-finals. After a hard-fought win over former world number one Daniil Medvedev, the Australian backed it up by defeating Denmark’s Holger Rune on Saturday. As in the previous round, he dropped the opening set before storming back in the next two.
With top stars like Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic absent from the tournament, Popyrin now stands as one of the favourites to retain his title. However, he’ll have to get past a major hurdle: world number three and top seed Alexander Zverev.
The German, a former champion in Toronto (2017), is set to play his fifth quarter-final at the Canadian Masters in just seven appearances.
One of the surprises of the tournament so far has been Alex Michelsen. The 20-year-old American is enjoying a stellar week. His powerful serve and composure from the baseline helped him dispatch both Musetti and Tien in straight sets. He now faces a big test in Karen Khachanov, though the Russian remains a strong contender on hard courts.
The quarter-final between De Minaur and Shelton also promises fireworks. De Minaur has shown great consistency this week and brings more experience to the table. Shelton, on the other hand, continues to impress with raw power, though he still struggles with consistency from match to match.
Finally, the showdown between Rublev and Fritz brings together two Top 10 players. Rublev has looked physically below par since Wimbledon, while Fritz has been one of the most consistent players this summer. On a fast hard court, the American holds a slight edge.

ATP Toronto 2025 – Quarter-Final Predictions
All odds are subject to change
Alexander Zverev to beat Alexei Popyrin @ 1.31
Zverev has looked rock-solid from the opening round. While he hasn’t yet faced an opponent of Popyrin’s calibre this week, the German stands out for his consistent serving and court coverage. The challenge will be real against a confident defending champ, but Zverev’s experience in big matches could prove decisive.
Alex Michelsen to beat Karen Khachanov @ 2.75
This is our bold pick of the day. Michelsen is playing freely and looks totally relaxed. His aggressive style could pose problems for Khachanov, who often starts slow. If the young American can dictate the tempo early on, an upset could very well be on the cards.
Alex De Minaur to beat Ben Shelton @ 1.61
De Minaur has been one of the most consistent players on tour this season. Facing an unpredictable Shelton—who still struggles to return consistently—the Aussie should be able to control the pace with his movement and counter-punching. If he starts strong, De Minaur could wrap it up in straight sets.
Taylor Fritz to beat Andrey Rublev @ 1.45
Although Rublev impressed with a three-set win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, this opponent might be a step too far. Fritz has been serving lights out and showing real mental strength in tight moments. He’s also won their last two meetings and is expected to have the upper hand once again.
