It is slightly surprising that home side Mechelen are the favourites to win the Friday night fixture. They are on a run of four straight defeats in the Pro League and are now only a point above the Relegation Play-Off places. Gent are 6th, unbeaten in four and fresh from a 1-0 win over Anderlecht, so in our opinion, all the signs here point to an away victory. Gent are the sixth-best away side in the division too, with 15 points earned on their travels.
Union Saint-Gilloise to beat Kortrijk @ 1.60
USG are the form outfit in the Pro League right now and this should be another routine victory for the Europa League side. They are the only team in the division to have won their last five top-flight fixtures and trail Club Brugge by only five points. Kortrijk look destined to remain in the relegation zone, having lost four of the last five in the Pro League, including last weekend’s disappointing 2-1 home loss to out-of-form Westerlo. Over to you, USG!
Standard Liege to beat Westerlo @ 4.80
Speaking of Westerlo, they will finally have a degree of confidence heading into a Pro League fixture after a run of four successive defeats. This Sunday, Westerlo host Standard Liege and are convincing favourites to emerge victorious. However, the odds for the visitors just seem too good to be true. Standard are 7th in the table and unbeaten in the last five, with three of those victories. Are we missing something here? Of course, Westerlo are better on home soil with only four defeats in 12 and Standard have struggled away from home, so there is certainly an element of risk.
Dender vs STVV: Draw @ 3.50
We finish by opting for a draw in a game which is incredibly hard to call. This is partly due to the fact that both Dender and STVV are each in poor form. Dender have lost three Pro League matches in a row, while STVV boast only a slightly better record with two defeats and a draw in the last three. Dender are also the third-worst home side in the division, while STVV are the third-worst away from their own patch. This is why the draw selection looks very, very tempting…
