Genk crashed out of the Croky Cup on Wednesday night, drawing 1-1 with Club Brugge on home soil after losing the first leg 2-1.
Zakaria El Ouadhi gave them hope with a 14th-minute opener, but Joel Ordonez’s strike 10 minutes later proved to be the decisive blow.
So Genk now have to regroup and prepare for the visit of Cercle Brugge, who have effectively removed themselves from the relegation discourse in recent weeks.
They are unbeaten in their last five Pro League matches with two wins and three draws, results which have allowed them to occupy 9th in the table with 29 points on the board.
But maintaining their positive run against a wounded Genk side will not be easy at all.
The table-toppers boast four consecutive league victories, as well as the division’s top scorer in Tolu Arokodare (14 goals).
When these two sides met back in September, Genk won 3-2 on their travels, with Arokodare on the scoresheet.
