Genk vs Anderlecht: Jupiler Pro League Preview

It’s another headline fixture in the Pro League this weekend as league leaders Genk face record Pro League Champions Anderlecht.

Genk will be desperate to hold onto their current position, but after defeat to title rivals Club Brugge on the last matchday, results this weekend could see them drop from top spot.

Anderlecht in 3rd, are currently five points behind Genk, so a win in this game will see the gaps between the top three sides further compressed, which is why this has been touted as a pivotal fixture in this campaign.

Genk vs Anderlecht Preview

The title credentials of Genk and Anderlecht will be under close examination as two of the top three face-off in this round 19 fixture.

Genk – who lead the Pro League by one point heading into this weekend – will be keen to avoid a mini collapse that has been bubbling under the surface in the last few weeks. They have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five in the league, which doesn’t sound that bad, but when you add the context of their closest challengers, Club Brugge and Anderlecht, are unbeaten in the same period having won four of their last five, you can understand the concern.

In that time, Genk’s lead has been cut to just a single point, with a potentially decisive moment coming last week, when Club Brugge beat Genk 2-0, with late goals from Brandon Mechele and Andreas Skov Olsen. So, after coming up against the team in 2nd last week, this week Genk play 3rd-placed Anderlecht, who have gotten stronger as the season has progressed.

Anderlecht are unbeaten in all competitions since an October defeat to Club Brugge, almost going unnoticed as they’ve crept up the table. A win this weekend would put them within two points of Genk, and, should Club Brugge fail to win, within one or two points of them as well, making for a tense title race as we enter the last 10 matchdays of the regular season.

Genk vs Anderlecht Betting Tips

Moneyline / Both Teams to Score – Genk Win and Both to Score @ 3.40

There aren’t many teams who go an entire season without facing adversity, and that’s something that Genk have certainly had to deal with in recent weeks. That being said, we think they can come through this one with a win, and essentially make it a two-horse race between them and Club Brugge. They’ll probably concede, though.

Winning Margin – Genk to Win by 1 Goal @ 3.90

Anderlecht are in good form and will likely battle valiantly, but we think Genk will have enough to secure victory by the odd goal.

Team to win Either Half – Genk @1.57

As you can see, we think Genk are going to win this one, so it makes sense that we believe they’ll win either half while they’re at it.
