Jupiler Pro League Matchday 22 – Betting Tips

Genk remain top of the Jupiler Pro League after an intriguing Matchday 21 that saw the teams in 2nd and 3rd positions face each other.

Those teams were Club Brugge and Anderlecht, with Club Brugge running out 3-0 winners, which led to a shake up in the Championship Round positions. Anderlecht were leapfrogged by Union Saint-Gilloise and Royal Antwerp, leaving them 5th after three successive defeats.

This has left the top two of Genk and Club Brugge clear from the rest, while a clutch of teams below them fight for Championship Round qualification. The same can be said for the Relegation Round places, as all teams up to 7th-placed Dender could be dragged back into the dogfight with a few bad results.

Dender to beat Cercle Brugge @ 2.95

Dender’s recent form has seen them win three of their last five in the Pro League, leaving them on a symmetrical record of won seven, drawn seven, and lost seven so far this season. Strangely, they’re also 7th in the table, so they will be plotting on sneaking into the Championship Round in the final weeks of the season.

Meanwhile, Cercle Brugge are 12th, just a place above the Relegation Round places, so will be nervously looking over their shoulder. They’re unbeaten in their last five, with two wins and three draws, so that’s at least an encouraging sign. However, not encouraging enough for us to fancy them to avoid defeat.

Genk to beat Mechelen @ 2.30

In their battle to stay ahead of Club Brugge, league leaders Genk take on midtable Mechelen. Genk have been put under pressure by Club Brugge in recent weeks, seeing their gap at the top cut to just one point, making every game a must-win if they wish to end the season as champions.

Conversely, Mechelen are without a win in their last six league games, so coming up against the team top of the league isn’t ideal. We expect them to struggle and for Genk to maintain their position at top spot for another week.

Club Brugge to beat Beerschot @ 1.16

Hot on the heels of top of the table Genk are Club Brugge, who have done brilliantly to make up the ground over the past few weeks, which included beating the leaders 2-0 and adding a new energy to the title race.

Now they face bottom of the table Beerschot, who are looking further adrift from the rest of the league with each passing week. They’re currently 11 points from safety, meaning they’re almost certain to be part of the Relegation Round come the end of the season. We expect an easy win for one of Belgium’s biggest clubs.

Anderlecht to beat Kortrijk @ 1.95

Anderlecht are in desperate need to stop the rot, as a string of recent results has cut them out of the title conversation. After three defeats in a row – two of which were by Genk and Club Brugge – the most successful club in Belgian football history have relinquished their position as title outsider and have become part of the pack battling for Championship Round qualification instead.

They’ve fallen 12 points behind Genk with just eight games to play, which means their new ambition must be to finish as the best of the rest in 3rd. Their opponents are Kortrijk, who are lingering in 15th after four defeats in the last five. They’re six points from safety, which doesn’t seem impossible to overturn in the grand scheme of things. But we’ll be surprised if they pick up points this weekend.
