Darts World Championship Final Preview

It’s Michael ‘Mighty Mike’ van Gerwen vs Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler in the 2025 World Darts Championship Final. The pair are very familiar with each other, having met 12 times in their careers, with six wins apiece, making this showdown the perfect tie-breaking event.

After falling short to Luke Humphries in 2024, Littler secured a place in his second consecutive World Darts Championship final. The young star now stands on the brink of glory, with the chance to claim the ultimate prize in 2025. At just 17, Littler has already achieved a remarkable feat, becoming only the seventh player in history to reach back-to-back finals.

His semi-final performance against Stephen Bunting showcased exactly why he belongs on this stage. In their clash, the opening set was a nail-biter, with Littler narrowly edging it thanks to his clinical finishing. Both players posted averages above 100, hinting at the high-scoring drama to come. Littler, the youngest player in the competition, took full advantage of the 39-year-old Bunting’s struggles on the doubles, storming into a 3-0 lead.

Bunting displayed resilience and grit, clawing back a set to make it 4-1. However, missed darts to close the gap further allowed Littler to step up and move within one set of victory. He sealed the match in emphatic fashion, pinning tops to secure his spot in the final and etch his name into the history books.

Standing in the way of Littler’s first World Darts Championship is Van Gerwen, who stormed into his seventh final after dismantling Chris Dobey in the first semi-final. The Dutchman now has the opportunity to lift the trophy for a fourth time, further cementing his legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

Van Gerwen delivered a masterclass in his semi-final against Chris Dobey. The Dutchman opened with a break of throw to take an early 1-0 lead and followed it up by clinching a tight second set after Dobey squandered opportunities to level the match.

Dobey responded with flashes of brilliance, whitewashing the fourth set and breathing new life into the contest. However, his resurgence was short-lived, as Van Gerwen responded immediately with a whitewash set of his own, averaging a breath-taking 107 to reassert his dominance and move 3-1 ahead.

From there, the Dutchman was unstoppable. He took three of the next four legs to establish a commanding lead, before wrapping up the sixth set. A break of throw in the seventh allowed him to step up and calmly pin D16, securing his place in the familiar surroundings of yet another World Championship final.

As the reigning Premier League champion, Littler has already shown he can thrive under the weight of expectation, having defeated world No. 1 Humphries in last year’s final of that event. Now, the question is whether he can take the next step and lift the Sid Waddell Trophy for the first time, or if Van Gerwen’s wealth of experience will see him claim his fourth world title on darts’ biggest stage.

Darts World Championship Final Betting Tips

First 180 – Michael van Gerwen @ 2.25

Being the man with the greater experience on this stage, we expect Van Gerwen to settle slightly quicker, culminating in scoring the first 180 in the contest.

Both Players to hit 2+ Bullseye Finishes @ 7.50

These are two players in top form right now, and we expect them to force each other to play their best darts. Bullseye finishes aplenty.

Winner Most 180s in Match – Luke Littler @ 1.14

Despite tipping his opponent to grab the first 180, over the course of the match, we think Littler will achieve more of the most famous score in darts overall.
