Anderlecht vs Club Brugge: Jupiler Pro League Preview

The game of the weekend in Belgium is, without a doubt, Anderlecht vs Club Brugge, as the two most successful clubs in Belgian football clash once again.

Not only is this fixture laden with prestigious history, it holds weight in the present too. The two sides are separated by one place, but eight points in the current league standings.

Anderlecht, in third, must avoid defeat if they want to maintain even a faint chance of realistically competing for the Pro League title this season. While Club Brugge need all three points if they want to continue their pursuit of current table-toppers Genk.

Anderlecht vs Club Brugge Preview

In a strange way, this game is a title decider, despite neither of these teams coming into Matchday 21 fixture top of the pile.

An Anderlecht win could decide that the title is Genk’s, who could extend their lead at the top to four points, should they also win this weekend. While a Club Brugge win coupled with a Genk defeat would see the former reach the summit of Belgian football once again, with their eyes firmly set on their 20th league title.

Club Brugge have been in fine form, remaining unbeaten in all competitions since October and winning four of their last five league games. Their momentum was slightly slowed by a 2-2 draw with Union Saint-Gilloise a couple of weeks ago, but they remain firmly in pursuit of Genk.

Anderlecht, in contrast, head into the game on the back of two consecutive league defeats, including a pivotal 2-0 loss to league leaders Genk. A further setback came against Championship Round hopefuls Dender, to whom they lost 3-2, culminating in just two wins in their last five Pro League fixtures.

Both teams are likely to be without key players due to injury and illness, with Anderlecht missing wonderkid Mario Stroeykens. Club Brugge will lack the presence of Maxim De Cuyper, who has been linked with the likes of Arsenal in recent months.

Anderlecht vs Club Brugge Betting Tips

Moneyline / Both Teams to Score – Club Brugge Win and Both to Score @ 3.40

Though there was agreement that Club Brugge would win, there was debate among our football experts about whether Anderlecht could muster a goal. Being at home, we think they can manage that much.

Team to Win Either Half – Club Brugge @ 1.51

In keeping with our expectation that Club Brugge will emerge from this clash as victors, we fancy them to win either half.

Both Teams to Score, No Draw – Yes @ 2.40

Goals win games. They also win accas. Potentially. Both teams to score again, but this time, we left ourselves some wiggle room by not combining it with a winner. Instead, we just think it won’t be a draw.
