The Bruges derby takes centre stage in the Pro League this weekend – and we are backing the underdog. Hosts Cercle Brugge are without a win in five and aiming to avoid the Relegation Round, while Club Brugge boast just a sole victory in the last five and trail Genk by nine points. With a crucial Champions League last-16 second leg against Aston Villa coming next week, in which they will be trailing 3-1, manager Nicky Hayen may opt to ring the changes, which could present Cercle with the perfect opportunity to claim derby bragging rights.
Westerlo to beat Anderlecht @ 3.10
Another match between a team threatened by relegation and another sitting comfortably in the Championship Play-Off places. Westerlo are back in the drop zone after a three-game winless run and it really is now or never for one of the Pro League’s most inconsistent sides. Fourth-placed Anderlecht are, of course, one of the toughest opponents in Belgian football and have won three of the last five league matches. However, we are taking a big risk and backing Westerlo to take their survival effort to Matchday 30.
Gent to beat Royal Antwerp @ 3.05
A victory here for Gent would guarantee their spot in the Championship Play-Offs, at the expense of Standard Liege. So motivation will not be an issue whatsoever and while a visit to fifth-placed Antwerp is never easy, we fancy Gent to get the job done and make Matchday 30 a far more enjoyable experience. Antwerp have won only two of the last five in the Pro League, with both sides drawing the last two. In truth, it is a very hard match to call, but that is why we all love the Belgian top flight!
Dender vs Genk: Draw @ 4.00
Genk really have been the standout team of the regular season. Spearheaded by the league’s top scorer Tolu Arokodare (16 goals), Thortsen Fink’s side are guaranteed to finish top ahead of the exciting Championship Play-Offs. With that in mind, the runaway leaders may take their foot off the gas slightly over the next week or so, to preserve energy for their attempt to lift the famous top-flight trophy. Dender, who are three without a win in the Pro League, are not in the same boat, as they could be dragged into the relegation zone. As such, we are backing an entertaining draw in this one.
