Despite a frustrating outing in Qatar, Lando Norris arrives in Abu Dhabi with the championship destiny in his own hands. Leading the standings with 408 points, he holds a 12-point advantage over Max Verstappen, and 16 over McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri.
The equation is simple: if he finishes on the podium, he will be crowned world champion—no matter what his rivals do.
This Formula 1 season will be remembered for Verstappen’s incredible comeback. The Dutchman erased a record-breaking 104-point deficit after the Zandvoort circuit and now trails by only 12 heading into the final race.
Fresh off a surprise victory in Qatar, the four-time world champion is no longer just an outsider in Abu Dhabi. He is now a genuine threat to Norris’ title hopes. If he wins at Yas Marina, the pressure on Lando will be immense, as the McLaren driver would then need to finish at least third.
Piastri, meanwhile, will need a miracle to claim the title. He enters the finale as the rank outsider. With 16 points to make up on Norris and 4 on Verstappen, the Australian sits on 392 points.
