This is one of the standout fixtures of the opening round of the Champions League season.

His excellent integration and recent call-up to the French national team must have boosted his confidence, which should translate onto the pitch. Ex-Newcastle striker Isak, who has yet to feature for his new club this season, will likely start on the bench and come on later in the game.

With a lethal attack led by Ekitike, Salah, Isak, Wirtz and Cody Gakpo, Liverpool look like one of the early favourites for the European crown. Atletico, meanwhile, have had a stuttering start to the season, already conceding four goals in La Liga. That vulnerability could be costly against a side as sharp and relentless as Liverpool.
